| 10th Place – Chemmy raises the bar for the season
By achieving her first top 10 result last week, Britain’s number one skier, Chemmy Alcott has set high standards in her first competition of the season, at the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup in Sölden, Austria.
In sunny conditions and on tough snow Chemmy did well to qualify for the second run of the GS in the opening Alpine World Cup of the season, after making a major mistake in her first run, catching her hand in the gate. However, through sheer skill and resilience Chemmy qualified in 28th place, 2.57 seconds behind the race leader, Finland’s Tanja Poutiainen.
However Chemmy didn’t allow the setback to quash her determination, pulling out all the stops for her second run and clocking the joint fastest time with Kathrin Zettel of Austria, the overall race winner. Chemmy seemed positive after the competition, “The result shows what good shape I am in; that I can still qualify after having made such a huge mistake and still get a great result proves I can do it.”
Achieving 10th place overall certainly proves that Chemmy is definitely on excellent form for the coming season. After such a result, all eyes will be on the next leg of the tour when the athletes travel to North America, and for Chemmy’s next race in Aspen, Colorado, at the end of the month. |
