Achieving Racial Equality in Sport for Local Government for Governing Bodies of Sport A charter scheme developed by Sport England and the Commission for Racial Equality to promote racial equality in sport. Organisations are able to meet three achievement levels - Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced - in order to reach the Standard for Racial Equality in Sport. Active Coaching Workshops A programme of sports coach UK workshops that have been organised at Premier Coaching Centres across England. Active Communities Development Fund (ACDF) A Lottery-funded programme designed to increase sports participation among black and ethnic minority communities, people with disabilities, women and girls, people on low incomes.
Awards for All A joint programme supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council of England, the National Lottery Charities Board and Sport England. It gives all applicants the opportunity to apply for Lottery grants of £500 to £10000. These are designed to support short-term revenue schemes that develop opportunities for participation in sport, particularly by target groups. Examples include coach training, competitions, leagues, participation programmes, and associated non-personal items of equipment.

English Federation of Disability (EFDS) Fitness Initiative The EFDS Inclusive Fitness Initiative will facilitate the availability of inclusive fitness equipment, training for facility personnel and the production of marketing and sports development packages that will sustain the use of fitness equipment by disabled people. English Institute of Sport The English Institute of Sport is a network of centres and service providers whose aim is to provide the best high-performance training environment in the World, for World Class programme athletes. Foundation for Sport and the Arts Established by the football pools promoters, this body has approximately £60 million annually to donate to sports and arts organisations. Grant aid may be made for the support of 'athletic games', 'athletic sport', 'non-athletic sport', or 'the Arts'. Please contact the Foundation for definitions of these terms. --L-- Back to Top
Learning at Work Offers higher education opportunities for sports professionals who cannot take full-time places at University or commit to the requirements of some part-time courses. Panathlon The Panathlon Challenge is aimed at inner-city schools. Schools selected receive: funds towards coaching; resources to buy equipment; links to national body coaching awards; local club information.
Performance Lifestyle
This programme provides athletes with career, education and personal development guidance and help. It is a national programme that is delivered locally, wherever an athlete trains, lives or works. The aims of performance lifestyle are twofold: • to give competitors the skills to cope with the special demands of being an elite athlete • to Prepare athletes for life after sport See: World Class Performance Programme Playing Fields and Community Green Spaces Launched in April 2001, this fund allocates more than £100 million in lottery grant aid with the aim of creating greener and fitter communities by transforming children's play and playing fields and upgrading green spaces across the UK. Just over £31million will be provided to protect and improve fields and school playgrounds with an emphasis on community use.
Playing for Success This national DfES initiative aims to contribute to educational standards, especially in urban areas, by establishing Study Support Centres in professional sports clubs Positive Futures A joint partnership between Sport England, the Youth Justice Board and the United Kingdom Anti-Drugs Coordination Unit. The aim of the initiative is to use sport to reduce anti-social behaviour, crime and drug use among 10-16 year olds within local neighbourhoods. --Q-- Back to Top
QUEST Quest - the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure is designed to assist sport and leisure providers of sports facilities and sports development to achieve a high quality service, with a commitment to continuous improvement. Quest is a pertinent, industry-specific tool for use in the pursuit of Best Value (see above). The scheme defines industry standards and good practice, and encourages their application and development in a customer focused management framework. --R-- Back to Top
Running Sport The Running Sport programme is an initiative which aims to improve the knowledge and skills of people working in sport. The programme is made up of workshops, booklets, and home study packs which provide advice on almost all aspects of managing, developing and administering a sports club.

Sport England Regions Community investment Decisions about Sport England funding (grants over £5000) are made locally by the nine regional sports boards. Eligible projects will be assessed against the priorities laid out in each regions.
School Sport Co-ordinators A multi-agency initiative based on families of schools to develop new opportunities for young people to participate in sport, giving special emphasis to providing opportunities for those living in areas of socio-economic disadvantage, focussing on involving more young people from groups traditionally under-represented, such as girls / young women, black and other ethnic minorities, and involving young people with special needs. SportsAid The charity gives financial aid in the form of grants to talented young people. Grants are awarded to help offset the high costs of training and equipment to enable young people to make the most of their sporting ability. sports coach UK scUK aims to improve the quality of coaching in the UK by providing advice to national governing bodies. A wide ranging programme of workshops are available at different levels, as well as books, videos, coaching aids and software through its trading arm, Coachwise. Sportsmatch This scheme encourages the business sector to invest in sport at grass roots level. Sportsmatch will double the money made available by sponsors to successful applicants for new or enhanced sports activity subject to limits of £1,000 minimum and £50,000 maximum. Target group work is a priority. Sports Train Training programme developed by Youth Clubs UK in partnership with Sport England and which can be accredited through the National Open College Network. It is primarily aimed at youth workers, sports specialists and leisure services staff, who seek an introduction into the use of sport as an effective medium for the development of personal life skills with young people. --T-- Back to Top
TASS TASS is a Government funded programme that represents a unique partnership between sport and higher and further education. TASS is about developing talent today for sporting success tomorrow. TASS bridges the gap in sports talent development pathway between junior representative sport and world-class levels for our most talented 16 to 25 year old sportspeople. The TASS programme has been created to help hundreds to fulfil their sporting potential by maintaining a sensible balance between academic life and employment whilst training and competing as a performance athlete. The programme awards Scholarships to talented athletes that are committed to combining their sport and education. It aims to reduce the drop out of talented athletes from sport and supports and develops the talent of today for sporting success in the future. Two awards are available Scholarships £3000, 2012 £10,000.
--W-- Back to Top World Class: Events Supports the attraction and operation of major sporting events in the UK. UK Sport retains the lead role as Lottery Distributor for the bidding and staging of major events, although if an application does not meet UK Sport criteria then the application is forwarded for further consideration to the appropriate Home Country Sports Council. World Class: Pathway Funding This programme supports the training and preparation programmes of elite performers who have the potential to win medals, or equivalent, in significant international competitions and events such as the Olympics and Paralympics.
