Involving children in Outdoor Education provides a wide range of intrinsic and extrinsic benefits. Outdoor education develops a positive attitude to challenge and adventure, allowing individuals to develop their own self awareness and social skills.
Snowsport activities can be practiced right here in the UK, at a local Artificial Snowsports centre. Snowsports provide the opportunity for children to benefit from a physical activity which differs from the traditional sports taught in schools and combines physical development with cognitive and personal development skills. Because skiing and snowboarding are individual sports, everyone progresses at their own pace - but with the support and fun of having friends around.
The mountain environment allow children to acquire an understanding for the natural environment, broadens their horizons to a wider range of physical activities, and teaches children to manage risk and extend their key skills in communication and problem solving. Residential visits allow children to experience time away from home and are often amongst the most memorable experiences for children.
Pupils can be engaged in snowsports through many mediums:
- Local Snowsport Centres welcome School groups, contact your local snowsport centre for information
- Running an educational visit
- Organising a school educational visit is a fantastic experience for pupil's and teachers alike.
Snowsport England runs a comprehensive training package for teachers who want to run an educational visit. Please view the teachers' page for more information.
