Joint Statement by the Home Nations and BASI
Correction to the BASI Course Directory, Pages 28 and 44 - Dry Slopes and Snow centres.
The initial paragraphs on pages 28 and 44 of the BASI Course Directory [Dry Slopes and Snow centres] state that 'BASI is working in partnership with Snowsport England' on 'the delivery of qualifications for those operating in the controlled environment of dry slopes and indoor ski centres'. These paragraphs were published in error.
Whilst BASI, Snowsport England and all of the Home Nation Governing Bodies share mutual respect for each other's roles and activities, it became clear in late summer 2007 that the Home Nations and BASI would not be able to reach a working agreement with regard to an awards pathway.
The outcome is that Snowsport England, Snowsport Scotland and Snowsport Wales have continued to develop their joint programme of Coaching and Instructing qualifications as UK Snowsports and BASI has introduced a Level 1 Instructor qualification which is designed as an alternative to the ASSI qualification and is an integral part of the BASI Instructing and Coaching qualification system.
UK Snowsports
The Home Nations would like to add that UK Snowsports offers a series of integrated Coaching, Leading and Instructing qualifications designed to serve the needs of the skiing and snowboarding community. Our awards are recognised throughout the UK and abroad providing a clear simple pathway, from first steps to internationally accredited qualifications. UK Snowsports awards are designed to be accessible, and are delivered in modular units, allowing candidates to move forwards to the next stage when they are ready.
