New Chairman 18th June 2008 Norfolk Man appointed Chairman of Snowsports governing body
Barry Spouge, a former Chairman and Director of Norfolk Ski Club, has been appointed Chairman and Director of Snowsport England (formerly known as the English Ski Council).
The organisation is the governing body for Snowsports in England, promoting and developing English skiers and skiing at all levels – performance or recreational, together with the organisation of competitive racing and the introduction of a new UK Snowsports coaching scheme for instructors, coaches and officials, in conjunction with Snowsport Scotland and Snowsport Wales.
Many of the countries top skiers come from the English Ski Squads in both Alpine and Freestyle disciplines. Chemmy Alcott, Britain’s top female World Cup skier, Ed Drake, David Ryding and local skier TJ Baldwin are some that have progressed through the English coaching system to join the Snowsport GB team.
Barry is also director of Countrywide Publications, a division of Micropress Printers Ltd, in Halesworth. Married to Carolyn he lives in Mulbarton and has 2 grown up children.
Barry was instrumental in the presentation for funding and planning of the major £1.4m project completed at Norfolk Ski Club at Trowse, Norwich, which saw the addition of a 2nd ski slope, ski & snowboard fun park, 5 new lifts and a major clubhouse extension. The project was opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex in January 2006.
