An outstanding first placed position for British Ski Academy and Hemel Ski Race Club Skier Yasmin Cooper (Chichester) and second placed Ambition and Hemel Ski Race Club racer Anna Henderson (Dunstable) ensured that English skiers ended Day Two of the English Alpine Championships, hosted by Snowsport England on a high.
The championships have previously seen racers such as, Vancouver 2010 Olympians Chemmy Alcott and Dave Ryding take part in the competition.
Withholding first place after her first run in a time of 33.88 seconds, Yasmin, aged 13 produced a spectacularly fast second run of 35.24 seconds to claim first place, whilst Anna, placed in the Silver trophy spot in her first run, also maintained her place after the second run.
Anna, aged 13, said: “The skiing is excellent and I love the resort. The atmosphere is great and this really encourages me to ski at my best.”
The girls took part in the Slalom Race in Bormio, Italy on the second day of the Championships with temperatures of minus six degrees. The Championships continue all week, with a host of English skiers vying for podium spots.
Chief Executive of Snowsport England, Tim Fawke said, ‘Another day of fantastic racing with superb conditions in Bormio. We have been made to feel very welcome in the resort and hope the excellent racing continues throughout the Championships.’
Elsewhere in the men’s competition Jordan Fellows, Telford finished in second place and first placed English Skier, finishing amongst a host of international competitors, showing his fellow racers how it should be done.

An outstanding second placed position for Team England Skier Alice MacAulay (Surrey) and third placed Ambition racer Bethany Widdup (Lancashire) ensured that English skiers ended Day One of the English Alpine Championships, hosted by Snowsport England on a high.
The championships have previously seen racers such as, Vancouver 2010 Olympians Chemmy Alcott and Dave Ryding take part in the competition.
Lying in sixth position after her first run in a time of 49.04 seconds, Alice, aged 16 produced a spectacularly fast second run of 55.56 seconds to move up the field and claim the second spot, whilst Bethany, placed eleventh in her first run, stormed to third place after her second run.
Bethany, aged 16, said: “I wasn’t expecting it and I’m really happy. I did what I could and I’m quite happy with how I performed. My family is proud of my results and I am definitely looking forward to the Slalom race later this week”

Chief of Race, Ian Roberts said, ‘Today was a race with 2 challenging courses, with different characteristics set by international course setters. The race ran well, with good cooperation by Bormio and great support from Snowsport England. Congratulations to the racers who made the podium.’
In the men’s competition Ashley Hill, Ambition finished in sixth place, placed amongst a host of international competitors, showing his fellow racers how it should be done.
