On Day Five of the English Alpine Championships 2012 in Bormio, Italy some great British racers maintained a high standard against international competitors with the advantage of home snow.
The championships have seen a host of excelling athletes tackle the steep pistes in the 16th annual race, seeing Bormio open its doors to Snowsport England and the sponsors Energiapura, Ski Racing Supplies, Racer Ready, SkiWire, EventGeeks, Vital Agency and Fine Designs.
First placed overall Senior Jai Geyer, aged 20 from Torquay Alpine Ski Club put in a spectacular run with a time of 92:45, said: “I put myself in a good position after the first run. It was good to go out the start gate as hard as I could. I am now to travel back to our base for more training and keep sharp and keep fresh .”
The Junior Racers took part in the Slalom Race in Bormio, Italy on the penultimate day of the annual Championships that sees over four hundred competitors take part in some horrifying descents.
Commentator and committed ski parent Gillian Poth said, ‘At least we know where our children are and they are doing something really good. Thanks to all the people who give their time to help with the races out here, they are always really good and it’s my holiday as well!
Elsewhere in the Junior female competition Alexandra Tilley, racing for Gordon Skiers put in a storming performance, bringing home a Scottish win for her club.
