British Ski and Snowboard

British Ski and Snowboard -

We have received a very exciting invitation from the organising committee of the World Alpine Championships to be held next February in Schladming, Austria.

The organisers are planning to run a Youth Camp alongside the main event, with opportunities for two young people from each FIS nation to stay in Schladming for a week to see some of the racing (and meet the competitors), and to participate in a number of cultural and sport related events.

You will see from the extract below that they are asking each NGB to nominate two interested young people, ideally people who are keen members of a club, and who contribute to the activities of that club in an exceptional way. All clubs will have ideas on who should go - they may not necessarily be your best athletes, but your best club members.

All expenses whilst there are to be covered by the host committee (please see the details below).

Prospective participants need to be aged between 14-18 years by the time of the event in February 2013.

I would like to ask that clubs send applications to me before the 14th July 2012 (any applications received after this date will not be considered). Applications should include:

   1. The reason why the club feels the candidate should go - max 500 words

   2. A few words from the nominee about why they should be considered for this event - max 500 words

   3. A note from the parents to say that they consent to the nomination

   4. Full contact details for the nominee/parents, and for the club official who is supporting the application; date of birth of applicant

   5. Schladming Youth Camp form filled in (attached)

Please note that BSS will not be responsible for the costs of travel or logistic arrangements, or for any aspect of the care of the young people during this event. Once the successful candidates have been announced, clubs and parents should satisfy themselves that suitable arrangements for care are in place.

When applications close, the nominations will be considered by Jenny Shute, Dave Edwards (CEO of BSS), and by the BSS coaching staff. Their decision will be final.

Successful candidates will be notified by 27th July 2012; BSS will then propose the names to the Youth Camp organisers.

This is an amazing opportunity for whoever goes.
