Powder conditions for European resorts
Heavy snowfalls across the whole of Italy over the weekend have led to fantastic powder conditions, and some resorts have seen their snow base double since Friday. France predicted to get heavy snow fall by the weekend.
Many resorts have received 100cm of new snow since Friday on the upper slopes, including Passo Tonale (120/370cm) which had enough snow to double its snow base on the lower slopes and is currently reporting 370cm of snow on the glacier! More snow is forecast throughout the week.
Livigno (128/220cm) also received a huge dump of snow this weekend and it hasn’t stopped yet. Only two lifts were able to open on Monday as a result of the poor visibility and heavy snow, but their base has doubled in depth across the whole mountain since Friday so when more lifts open then the conditions should be phenomenal.
Cervinia (65/230cm) is also benefiting from the fresh snow. They have received 20cm since Sunday and nine lifts were reported open Monday providing great access to the fresh powder.
The outlook for the week in Europe is for things to quieten down, with the last of the heavy snow clearing away leaving behind it cold but dry air. So it's bluebird conditions for the lucky few able to get out there; clear, sunny skies and deep powder!
In the western corner of the Alps, predominantly France, it's a different story with heavy snow set to continue. Alpe D’Huez is expecting 102cm to fall by next weekend, and the rest of the French resorts are all expecting between 40 and 60cm.
