Promising Results For Rising Stars In Spain. 5th March 2007 14 Snowsports athletes made promising starts to their international careers at the European Winter Olympics festival in Spain 17th -24th February 2007.
The event is held every two years, and 2007 is the first time in Spain has hosted the event. The results for all the athletes can be found on the British Olympic Association website.
The events were frustrated by bad weather which made conditions particularly challenging in the Alpine and Cross Country events, and unfortunately led to the Snowboard events being cancelled.
In the Slalom a solid performance was delivered by Jo Ogdon, who was the only GBR male to finish the event in 40th place. Some of the best Alpine results were achieved in the Giant Slalom, England Team members Jamie Baggio was an excellent , 24th, and Jai Geyer, 27th.
For the first time ever GB sent a full team of Cross Country Skiers. Personal bests were achieved by all the athletes, and notable results from English skiers Fiona Hughes, 52 and Simon Spencer, 81. The team finished on a high with an 18th place in the mixed relay.
