Snowport England EGM - Modernisation
20th November 2006

On the 18th November, Snowsport England members considered the paper on modernisation.

There was strong support for the principles of modernisation and for some aspects of the paper. However there were significant concerns from Snowsport England members about elements of the proposals.

The vote was 22 for the proposals and 730 (97%) against.

Members recognised that a tremendous amount of work has been completed to date and that there are elements in the proposals that can and should be implemented.

The following was proposed by North West Ski Federation and supported by London and South East Regional Ski Association.

Proposed Resolution unanimously supported (with one abstention) by the members present at the Snowsport England EGM:

We fully support the principles of Modernisation as defined in “Investing in Change” – “the process of continuing development of a Governing Body towards greater effectiveness, efficiency and independence.”

However, we believe that the proposal tabled today by the existing Steering Group is fundamentally flawed in various areas, will not deliver these objectives and is likely to destroy much of the excellent snowsports development which has been achieved by the governing bodies and their member clubs over the last 25 years.

We task Snowsport England Council and Board urgently to work closely with the other Home Nation Governing Bodies to deliver the objectives of modernisation without compromising the continuation of this development.

This work is to be started with immediate effect and a progress report to be delivered to the Snowsport England AGM in May 2007.
