So how did I end up here?

I have had a life time in snow sports as I had 5 years growing up in Norway when I was younger, and there is not much else to do in the winter but ski! This started my passion for the sport and got me involved in the racing side. which took me up to the British Alpine Ski Team. I retired from racing in 1998 and went to University to study Sports Science and Management. Following this, I completed all my coaching and instructing qualifications and worked as an assistant to the England Alpine Ski Team, and as an instructor in Meribel for New Generation Ski School. I was then employed full time in 2004 as head coach for the England Alpine Ski Team before moving into the administration side in 2007 as head of operations, and became CEO in 2008.

My desire is to get as many people to try skiing and boarding as possible, and hopefully get the enjoyment that I have got from the sport.

So how did I end up here?

I came to Snowsport via Judo, weird I hear you say but my background is one of administration within sport rather than sport itself.  After working in the private sector for many years a position at JudoScotland became available where I worked as Support Services Manager for 3 years.

When a change in my home life meant moving back down south after 25 years in Scotland and the position of Operations Manager came up in Loughborough with Snowsport England I jumped at the chance!  Two very different sports but both membership organisations making them very similar in lots of ways.

I don't ski, but am slowly being persuaded that I should probably try it and soon!!

So how did I end up here?

I came to Snowsport England as I was looking for a part time job after having my little girl 16 months ago.I saw the perfect role at Snowsport England and was lucky enough to get the vacancy. I have a background in sport as I used to be a competitive swimmer in Scotland for many years. I moved to Loughborough nearly 4 years ago and my first job when I moved here was administrator with the Amateur Swimming Association so this was great experience for my role at Snowsport England. I have only been in this role a few weeks but love it! I have had some experience of skiing in France and Switzerland and loved it! I have had a couple of snowboarding lessons but I am still working on this.

So how did I end up here?

Sport has always been important to me, initially as a participant, then as a coach, spectator and volunteer. I have played many sports at all levels from grassroots to national, and have coaching qualifications in several. Almost ten years ago after a family ski holiday, we joined a ski club on our return. This resulted in our sons taking part in the ski racing side of the sport. Through the excellent training, friendship and support they received from the clubs, Paul has been a ski instructor for the Red Devils Ski School in Kitzbuhel, Austria for the last five years and takes part in the racing programme over there, and Tom is race captain for Salford University Snowsports Team.

My role with Snowsport England involves Co-ordinating work programmes for the Sports Development Team and collating reports for Sport England regarding the delivery of the Whole Sport Plan.

So how did I end up here?

Sport has always been very important to me, I have been involved with a number of different sports throughout my life; As a spectator, a participant, as well as a coach. Due to this I have chosen to pursue a sports development career fulfilling the desire to give back to sport and being able to give others the opportunity to gain the enjoyment and benefits that sport can bring.

Over the past two years I have worked passionately as the Isle of Wight Watersports Development Officer. This involved working with the local watersport clubs and centres to connect them to the wider sports development network, offering club development support, as well as introducing initiative to help growing and sustain participation.

I am an eager snowboarder falling in love with the sport when introduced through university. I have had 4 years of enjoyment out of recreational participation and when the opportunity to combine my love for snowsports and sport development arose I couldn’t turn it down.

So how did I end up here?

Well I have studied and worked in Sport all my life. I graduated after studying at the University of Birmingham and Derby in 2008 gaining a BSC in Sports and Exercise. Since then I have worked for the Youth Sport Trust and formally at Sport England as a grants officer and in Community Sport relationship.

I am 6ft 6ins tall so after my glittering career as a goalkeeper ended ( at the age of 12) with players deliberating putting the ball in the corner! I thought I would turn the tables and have a go at Basketball! Since switching I have played at National league level and am currently represent the Leicester Warriors national league team division 4

In my spare time I love to do other sports and am aiming to have more Snowboarding lessons getting to a competent level. I’m normally like Bambi on ice, however in Snowboarding I seem to have taken to it.  Snowboarding gives me a great distraction from the Basketball season and gives a different type of adrenaline rush!!

I am most passionate about sport and see Skiing and Snowboarding as something that is attractive and cool for people to participate in. I want to get more people to take part in it!

So how did I end up here?

Sport has always been a major part of my life both as a participant, coach and volunteer. I have been involved in a range of sports ranging from Rugby to Rowing. I have participated at a range of levels from grassroots to national.

Since graduating from Loughborough University with a degree in Information Technology Management for Business I have established a personal training business based in Derbyshire also held numerous sport/ club development positions and when I saw the role advertised to join Snowsport England I jumped at the chance to be involved with such a fun sport at the extremely exciting time of harnessing the SOCHI 2014 opportunity.

I don’t ski however I am very quickly being persuaded to give it a go!

So how did I end up here?

My first experience of snowsports was down to my PE teacher at my secondary school. He arranged a ski trip to Italy and sorted out lessons before we went at our local ski centre. I fell in love with the sport then but never dreamt that it would be my career one day.

I went away with school every year and used my local slope to practice from time to time.

When I started my A Levels I decided I needed another form of income (my paper round just wasn’t enough). I was lucky and I got a job working in Ski Hire at Swadlincote Ski Centre. I really enjoyed the work and best of all I got free skiing. I started to train as a Ski Instructor and quickly decided to have a year out before going to university. I seasoned in Andorra.

On my return I worked for Llandudno ski centre as the company I worked for had just purchased it. I trained hard and developed my coaching side. I became a Duty Manager and I could work in any department at the ski centre.

In 2003 I earned a promotion back to Swadlincote as Head of Ski School.  I was now responsible for 50 instructors and the team of Ski Technicians I once was. I have helped developed many systems for the Nike Group and even became the boss of the Instructor who first taught me to ski!!!

I am now a Tutor for Snowsport England.

My free time is now taken up by my little daughter who hopefully one day will enjoy snowsports, as long as someone makes Peppa Pig skis!!!

I am excited about joining the team and look forward to the challenges ahead.
