Snowsport England is pleased to announce that Fern Cates has been appointed as the Chair for the Nordic Committee.
Fern is joining a newly-reformed structure of our committees, aiming to help us deliver our vision, launched in 2019, to “Inspire participation in Snowsport at every level”.
Fern comes into the Nordic Committee Chair role with first-hand experience of the sport at the highest level as GB Team and World Championship Athlete.
A Nordic athlete herself, Fern started her snowsport journey when learning to roller ski in the UK before taking her skills to snow and starting to compete.
Cates is also a qualified Snowsport England instructor, who has actively taught roller skiing for the London XS Ski Club and instructed on-snow cross-country skiing.
Fern will aim to increase participation and accessibility of the Nordic discipline in England through her new role, as she joins Snowsport England during an exciting time for the sport at both grassroots and performance level.
Snowsport England CEO Tim Fawke said: “I’m very excited to have Fern on board as the Chair of the Nordic Committee.
“Her extensive experience of the sport as both an athlete and instructor makes her a fantastic asset to the committee.
“Fern’s enthusiasm for the sport and undeniable knowledge will drive an exciting phase for the development of the Nordic discipline in England.”
Fern Cates said: “Developing through the Snowsport England system from grassroots to elite and coaching level over the last ten years, I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring my enthusiasm and experience of the sport to the committee and learn from the knowledge of other members to provide a welcoming and exciting nordic community in England.”
