It is with sadness that we report the passing of Gerald Harrison. Gerald was a skier, a Snowsport England coach and tutor, a respected BBC producer and director, and perhaps most important of all, a true gentleman.

Over the years, Gerald worked with many clubs and ski centres; his endless optimism, calm nature and good cheer meant that, even at the end of the rainiest day, his skiers had improved and left the slopes with a smile on their face.

Gerald worked with a number of clubs including Kendal and was a regular coach on Oxfordshire Ski Club’s ‘Squalor Tours’.

Gerald was best described as a ‘kind and thoughtful man who was not only passionate about skiing but was a very experienced BBC announcer and director. Many years ago, he used to introduce and organize a weekly Brass Band Programme on Sunday afternoons on BBC 2. Gerald was also a coach with different ideas and ways of teaching both instructors and members that made you remember and use the techniques in your own teaching and skiing.’

Another old friend said “He was a popular and highly regarded instructor. More than that, he was such a good, kindly and interesting person with whom to share chalet life and time on the slopes.  Gerald was so much more than just the very professional ski instructor which, undoubtedly, he was.”

His skiing friends will miss his advice and the smooth sound of his voice on the slopes.

Our thoughts are with his partner Fiona and those close to him.

Those who knew Gerald will want to know that he will be remembered on Wednesday 3rd April at 1pm at the Holy Trinity Church in Dobcross.  Near Oldham, just down the road from his house – The Manor House, Dobcross.
