The nordic community descended on the Brownlee Centre in Leeds for Snowsport Englands 2nd Nordic Festival on the weekend of 17th-18th June. A fully inclusive event, offering structured sessions for beginners to racers and para athletes with coaches, Martin Watkins, John Allen and Fern Cates. As well as refining participants rollerski technique skills and offering off ski training options, participants had the opportunity to put this into practice in the GB Rollerski Championship race.
The GB Rollerski Championship race, was attended by almost 35 athletes from across Britain with a number of athletes travelling down from Scotland and up from London. Race distance options of 16km and 8km were offered, with the freestyle technique used. The race was closely fought in all categories, see results page for winners and positions. Our new British Champions are also noted on the results. Congratulations to all competitors. Once competitors had chance to recover from the GB championship race, they were able to join in the ‘fun relay races’ with teams of 3 going head to head. The mixed team format allowed for some close battles with the team representing Fife rollerski club winning.
A special thanks to our lead volunteers for the festival and race, Fern Cates, Amy Gumbrell and Steph Cook. As well as Martin Roscoe at the Brownlee centre, Keiran Jones from Fife rollerski club as well as YDCCSC.
